There is great news for DC Universe fans – the script of ‘The Batman 2‘ is officially complete. And this is not a rumor, but DC Studios co-head James Gunn himself has confirmed this news.

Big news from the red carpet
Recently, at the premiere of “Superman”, when Gunn was asked if he had read the script of “The Batman 2”, he surprisingly said,
“Yes, I have read it… and it is fantastic!”
It seems easy to say it so simply, but DC fans know how deep it means.
Matt Reeves’ peace, and fans’ restlessness
The duo of Matt Reeves and Mattson Tomlin finalized the script in June. A photo went viral on social media in which both writers were seen sitting in front of a table with the script — and then the internet went into a frenzy.
For the past few months, fans have been asking, “When will the script be completed?” But Reeves has always calmly said,
“Give the story time, we are doing something big.”
James Gunn also came out in support of Reeves and said, “Don’t put so much pressure on Matt, he’s doing a great job.”
Shooting date fixed – release date also confirmed?
‘The Batman 2’ will begin filming in January 2026 – location: Leavesden Studios (UK).
And the film may hit the theaters on 1 October 2027. Although the release date has been changed twice before, now it seems that it is final.
Who all are returning?
- Robert Pattinson will play Batman again.
- Jeffrey Wright will return as James Gordon.
- Andy Serkis will be the loyal Alfred.
- And Colin Farrell’s ‘Penguin’ will be more dangerous than ever.
Special thing: Barry Keoghan may also return in the role of ‘Joker’ – who appeared at the end of the first part.
Snowy Gotham, a darker story?
Matt Reeves has hinted that this part will be darker, more emotional and more “crime western” in tone than before. Snow will fall on the streets of Gotham, and Batman will be shown struggling with his morality, anger and loneliness.
The events of the first part, especially the impact of Riddler’s terrorist attacks, will be deepened in this film.
Where does this film fit in the DC Universe?
It’s worth noting that ‘The Batman 2’ is part of the “Elseworlds” timeline, meaning it’s separate from James Gunn’s main DCU. While Gunn is working on new projects like The Brave and the Bold, Reeves is expanding his “Epic Crime Saga” universe — which also includes the HBO Max show The Penguin.
Conclusion
- script is ready
- Gun said “Great”
- shooting starts soon
- Fans’ expectations are now even higher
Now it remains to be seen whether ‘The Batman 2’ will truly carry forward the legend that the first film started – or will it prove to be the darkest chapter yet, plumbing new depths?
